NZ Superannuation. Annual April adjustment

Hi folks, been in Aussie last 3 weeks. The reforms of Aged Care in Australia (Nov 2025) under heavy  criticism, a lesson here for NZ?

A team of accountants and lawyers required for anyone trying to untangle the complicated laws pertaining to Aussie Superannuation. The bias in their poliocy favours the wealthy who can afford the accountant and legal skills to receive the maximum benefits from their complicated systrem

An annual adjustment to New Zealand Superannuation and Veteran’s Pension payments takes effect from 1 April. 

The adjustment reflects inflation and the average wage.

New fortnightly rates have increased to:

  • $984.28 each before tax or $854.08 each after tax (‘M’ tax code), for a married person or partner in a civil union or de facto relationship
  • $1,294.74 before tax or $1,110.30 after tax (‘M’ tax code) for a single or widowed person living alone
  • $1,191.14 before tax or $1,024.90 after tax (‘M’ tax code) for a single or widowed person sharing accommodation.

The date for the increase falls partway through the pay period, so initially you will receive a partial payment at the new rate. This will be paid early on Friday 3 April due to Easter.

The first full payment at the new rate will be paid on Tuesday 21 April.
