No contest. The Aussie system is complex, bias towards wealthy and requires tons of paper work. Aussie citizens look across the ditch yearning for the simplicty and efficiency of our NZ retirement income system
Shamubeel Eaqub says its not fair, my view is its world leading retiorement income Public policy, no alternative suggested comes even close, its a throwaway comment by Eaqab who offers (like most economist) no better solution, and avoid like the plague alternative policy which offers better outcomes. The Youth of NZ will require it even more than the current group of retirees , as they grow old.
It can’t be done, hence no change, just silly one off suggestions which are likely to have massive unintended consequences. None so blind as those that cannot see.
NZ Super is great policy, if affordability is the issue, there are many progressive taxation measures available to increase Govt revenue, the suits and wealthy immediately run for the hills, because it will impact their own comfortable situation, wrapped around trusts and asset protection and often excessive income packages. Note they support means testing of income, never means testing of assets.
However despite my own sermon, defending the status quo,
different opinions are always valued!
